THE Zoup... THE spot to find all my successful ventures into Band Identity
This blog is now 100% dedicated to showing what I'm currently working on in my last module for this course - Graphic Design.
This includes: my influences, what's getting me inspired and laughing, and how I'm creating a new (imaginary) band identity for The Zoup.
I'm going to try and post up what I'm working on as I get it done, as an additional way of archiving my progress, alongside my workbook.
SO, coming soon -
Some preliminary drawings of band members
New Typeface/logo design
Information on theme (NZ SUMMER 2011)
Some snazzy summer-related doodles (digital and hand generated)
Excellent - very exciting. Ready, set, GO!

Demetri Martin in... Clearification
Demetri Martin is a definite favourite for me when it comes to comedy. He uses simple humour that gets you giggling. Puns puns puns - we love them. Then you pretty much realise that he's a genius.
He makes me feel like I'm not alone in the world.
I was having a watch of his videos on the tube - as I finally got to that inevitable point of being sidetracked which always happens when I'm researching something for uni.
Then BOOM - he's doing ads for Microsoft, Windows Vista in the states.
Demetri Martin + ads for well known product + sweet water-colour style graphics... Perfect, I'm sold.
Check out my new inspiration HERE

Humour in Advertising
So I'm beginning an exploration of humour as a feature of advertising - particularly in regard to product advertisments. This is light research to aid my Graphic Design project. I'm doing musical identity for local band The Zoup, and want to base the idea around a summer campaign for them, that in some way incorporates humour in a fun and universally appealing way :)
The first thing that jumped to mind is our local controversial Tui beer billboards. However, I struggle to understand these - or find them funny ;)
Although, this one makes a bit of sense at the moment.
Guerrilla Girls used humour in their art to address their cause - equal rights for women in society.
Sarcasm appears to be a pretty effective tool when it comes to easily accessible humour.
